A note from our Chair
Dear Global Friends of the Asia Development Alliance,
As we bid farewell to another transformative year, let's take a moment to celebrate the collective impact we've made together on a global scale. Our shared commitment to sustainable development, human rights, and social justice has resonated far beyond borders, making a difference in communities across continents.
This year, our alliance stood as a symbol of global solidarity. Challenges didn't recognize boundaries, and neither did we. As we look ahead to the new year, let's set our sights on creating a more equitable and sustainable world. Our global community needs us to forge stronger alliances, build diplomatic connections, and advocate for positive change. The issues we face are global, and so must be our response. Let's use the power of our alliance to shape policies, influence decision-makers, and drive change that goes beyond our immediate surroundings.
To each global advocate in our alliance, your contributions have had a lasting impact. As we welcome a new year, let's carry forward the spirit of collaboration and responsibility. May the coming year be a testament to the strength of our unity and the positive change we can create together.
Wishing you a joyful holiday season and a New Year filled with global collaboration and success!
Ms. Jamila Asanova, ARGO- Kazakhstan – Chair of Asia Development Alliance

HR & Sustainable Development Conference – Paris (7-8 December, 2023
On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the 25th anniversary of the United Nations Declaration on Human Rights Defenders, the "Human Rights and Sustainable Development" Conference was organized by the French Development Agency (AFD). The conference explored how development actors can contribute to the respect, protection and fulfilment of human rights, while taking care to move away from an overly anthropocentric approach towards a more ecocentric approach for the benefit of the living world as a whole.
This conference followed the 2021 conference, which highlighted the ecological emergency in its broadest sense and the links between conventional human rights (economic, social, cultural, civil and political), the right to a healthy environment and the emerging rights of nature, given that the global ecological crisis is having a massive and multidimensional impact on human rights.
During the event, speakers from a variety of backgrounds and rights defenders from the North and South debated and deliberated these issues and the challenges they pose for the evolution of development models.
The conference was held on 7-8 December at AFD headquarters, with the option of taking part online.
ADA was invited to speak during the conference on Privatization of Agriculture and Agribusiness: Human Rights Impacts in Asia" to discuss the human rights implications of the privatization of agriculture and agribusiness in Asia, a region with over half (59 percent) of the world’s population, that is marked by vibrant economies, rich natural resources, and a complex tapestry of political and economic landscapes.”
