After not so sleepy month of October (following the September UNGA Fever) , I am here to share some important events that we organised in collaboration with our partners and allies. We also took this month to plan out some bigger advocacy campaigns, so keep looking for this space to know more about them.

 The 8th World Human Rights Cities Forum (WHRCF) - International Workshop on 2030 Agenda for Human Rights Cities

  • International Workshop on 2030 Agenda for Human Rights Cities was a joint initiative of the Gwangju Metropolitan City and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), Asia Development Alliance (ADA) and Asia Democracy Network (ADN) in cooperation with the International Human Rights Cities Network (IHRC-Net).
  • The event was organised under the theme “Promoting Integrated Approach to Human Rights and SDGs Locally” aimed at develiping a long-term agenda for human rights cities towards 2030 which integrates human rights, SDGs and New Urban Agenda (NUA) of the UN HABITAT in line with the 2014 Gwangju Guiding Principles for Human Rights Cities.

 
 

Busan Democracy Forum (BuDF) 2019 
October 14-16, 2019 (Busan, Republic of Korea)

7dffb184-e794-4eb6-af45-409684586c46.jpgThe Busan Democracy Forum (BuDF) 2019 is a joint initiative of Busan Metropolitan City, Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), UNESCO Asia Pacific Center for Education for International Understanding (APCEIU), Asia Development Alliance (ADA) and Asia Democracy Network (ADN) in partnership with international and local institutions and organizations engaged in the SDGS, especially Target 4.7 known as global citizenship education (GCED) and the Goal 16 (Peace and Justice). 
The BuDF 2019 was organised on 14-16 (Mon.-Wed.) Oct. 2019 at the Haeundae Grand Hotel, Busan, Korea under the theme: Transformative Global Citizenship Education for Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies - SDG Target 4.7 and the Goal 16.”  During this event, ADA also organsied GALA taining of trainers (ToT) for few selected trainers who have been part of ADA’s GALA training and have contributed in GALA training toolkit.

Forthcoming Event

C20 Hand-Over Event: “Larger Voices of Civil Society for G20 towards a Sustainable World” : November 18th, Tokyo, Japan

 
The handover event would like to confirm the outcomes of C20 and further continuity of C20 process and affirm C20’s continuity and significance based on the concept below; 
(a) Policy recommendations for the G20 agenda from the standpoint of an independent and free-willed civil society 
(b) Organization of the C20 Summit and advocacy based on the values presented in the “C20 guiding principles” document formed this year 
Apart from this, the event will be an opportunity to  confirm the C20 plan with the hosting organization of the 2020 C20 through the appropriate C20 framework and discuss the continuity and development of the WGs. 
  1. (a)  Establish the 2020 troika system (Saudi-Arabia, Japan, Italy) that is to take over from the 2019 troika system as well as 
  2. (b)  its support system (International advisory committee and the steering committee)

 Invitation: 2019 16+ Forum Timor-Leste Annual Showcase, 11-14 November 2019

We are thrilled to invite you to the 2019 16+ Forum Timor-Leste Annual Showcase, to be held in Díli from the 11th to the 14th of November. Building off successes of the inaugural Annual Showcase Georgia in 2017 and the second in Sierra Leone in 2018, this third Timor-Leste Annual Showcase comes on the heels of the SDG Summit and is the first to be held in Asia.  

Bringing together a wide range of stakeholders and sectors engaged on SDG 16+, this global gathering offers an opportunity for Timor-Leste and the larger international community to highlight successes, challenges and solutions in meaningfully advancing peaceful, just and inclusive societies.

Call for participation – Help move your subregion forward on the SDGs, August-December 2019

 

ESCAP is organizing a series of meetings to advance implementation of the SDGs and prepare for the 6th Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development to be held during March 2020.
These meetings are scheduled during August to December 2019 to facilitate dialogue among government officials, civil society, experts and other stakeholders.  Organized by ESCAP’s subregional offices in East and North East Asia (ENEA)South and South West Asia (SSWA)North and Central Asia (SONCA) and the Pacific (EPO) in collaboration with UN Resident Coordinators and with the wider UN system, the meetings will focus attention on ways to accelerate progress on the SDGs. They will also take stock of discussions of the conclusions of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development. 
Targeted participants, by invitation are:

  • Experts from government agencies responsible for national coordination of SDGs
  • Representatives of non-government and private sector organizations
  • Regional and sub-regional organizations
  • Other stakeholders involved in SDG implementation at national, regional and global levels

 The deadlines for non-government stakeholder applications for participating in the meetings are as follows:
