ADA Newsletter- August, 2019
Dear ADA Members and Friends,
Hope you had a restful August!
Though, the month wasn’t a quiet one like the usual last three years post HLPF phase because of UNGA and SDG summit this September and most of us have been quietly planning our actions for the same. There have been a quite a few activities at the national level reviewing the last HLPF and strategizing some concrete steps to engage in the SDGs implementation, monitoring and review mechanism. The civil society all over the globe have been engaged in the HLPF review documents (goal wise propositions) before the UN General Assembly and the SDG summit with hope of better and improved multi-stakeholder mechanism. We also hope to see a lot of national mobilization campaign in September around UNGA and SDGs summit and will try to document and relay them to you in our news feed. Watch out for this space.
Meanwhile, please share any news/ updates should you wish them published in our monthly newsletter and feel free to give your suggestions on how to improve our communication with you at ada2030.secretariat@gmail.com
In solidarity,

“Leaving No One Behind” and Role of CCC in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Subtitle: Voluntary National Review (VNR) at the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF), UN, New York
By SIN Putheary
Advocating for open, transparent, and inclusive participatory approach in all stage of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) including Voluntary National Review (VNR) is what CCC and its members are doing.
Throughout the coordination with Civil Society, CCC did the consultations with provincial NGO networks, members, partners, and the government to bring all the inputs to VNR report on SDGs implementation in Cambodia at the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) hosted by Economic and Social Council of the UN in New York on 8-18 July 2019.
HLPF is the global Forum for reviewing achievements, challenges, and lesson learn of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) implementation. In 2019 Voluntary Nation Review (VNR) at the global level, it reflected on SDGs implementation Goals 4, 8, 10,13,16, and 17.
Among 193 countries that are member states of the United Nations, 49 countries including Cambodia volunteered to present the Voluntary National Review (VNR) at HLPF.
The final draft of VNR report (inputs from CSOs) has been summited to Ministry of Planning, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of information, Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, Ministry of Justice, and Anti-Corruption Unit before joining the UN stage in New York. (The final publication of VNR report from CSOs will be available in September 2019).
CSOs perspectives toward the Government of SDGs implementation: Achievements: 1) The government finished the localization process of SDGs in 2018 2). The government formalized SDGs to Cambodia Sustainable Development Goals 3). The government presented the VRN report on the implementation of SDGS.
However, there are some concerns on the understanding of SDGs to all especially among youth, the awareness raising on SDGs from the National to Sub-national, the limited budget for SDGs implementation and leaving no one behind this framework.
The forum ended, but the process of advocating for transparent and inclusive participatory approach still continues by CCC and members.
