The proposed Online training (Starting August 24, 2020, until September 11) is jointly organized by ADA and JANIC. The training aims at creating SNS campaigns addressing digital security and infographics to tackle potential human rights violations especially in the context of shrinking civic spaces and COVID 19 Pandemic in most of the countries globally, where the voices of the civil society have been muted on the virtual platforms, especially during the multi-stakeholder events.
About the Training:
This training will aim at exploring digital infrastructure as they relate to civil society in democracies and shrinking civic space. We will consider the role of privacy, anonymity, free expression, and free association and examine the digital tools and practices that enable these freedoms. The training consists of three two themes:
The role of civil society in democracies especially in the context of continued shrinking civic space
Individual and collective digital security
The training is structured as a series of lectures, with homework assignments that involve using various “mass-market tools for digital security and privacy.
Training for Whom
The training is open for Communication heads/organization heads or any Civil Society Activists who uses social media/communications
We are very careful in having limited participation to make the sessions interactive and participatory and you are requested to attend the entire training.
Training Period
This three-week training would be held twice a week, and each session would consist of 120 minutes. The participants are encouraged to share their experiences through various PowerPoint presentations and also sharing the success and not so successful experience.
Training Output
After completing this training, the participants should:
Have a greater understanding of SNS campaign and related Human right Violations
Increase visibility and effecting voicing/concerns
Use toolkit on SNS campaign and digital security effectively, especially in the context of COVID 19 Pandemic
Understand the role and need of creating an enabling environment for the civil society in democracies
Understand the ways in which digital tools and infrastructure expand and challenge democratic practices
Understand current practices regarding individual data safety and safe data practices
Share stories of their SNS campaign after a month of the completion of the training, to be published at ADA/JANIC websites and shared with wider stakeholders
Receive certificates on completion of this training
