Private sector resources need to be significantly mobilised to achieve sustainable development, as so far only a small amount of worldwide assets is invested in sectors critical to the SDGs. This Session will explore innovative development finance tools, including blended finance, from a policy perspective. Participants will explore how OECD and non-OECD countries can play a catalytic role alongside investors and companies in order to ensure optimal outcomes.

The SDGs recognise the role of SMEs in promoting strong, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, as well as decent work for all (SDGs 8 and 9). This session will shed light on the role of entrepreneurs in the achievement of the SDGs and the importance of creating conducive “ecosystems”. Participants will discuss, among other issues, smart regulation options to foster SMEs’ development.

The private sector, from SMEs to large corporations, is increasingly embracing the sustainable development agenda. A smart mix of incentives and policies is needed to further stimulate such action.
